About Britney Hooper, M.D., M.S.
I enjoy the challenge of figuring out how to work with unfamiliar tools and materials. I am a self-taught artist in several disciplines including wood carving, snow sculpting, and pumpkin sculpting. I have also taken several short courses and workshops taught by Hans Ruebel at the Toledo Museum of Art including Beginning Blacksmithing, Beginning Welding Sculpture, Lost-Wax Casting Aluminum Sculpture, and Jewelry Casting. I have also completed several glass blowing workshops and flameworking mini-classes at the Toledo Museum of Art.
My interest in the arts also extends to film and theatre. I was involved in theatre and improv comedy during middle and high school in Albuquerque, and before attending grad school I worked in the film industry in New Mexico as an extra on several productions including The Avengers, Fright Night (2011), Game Change, Odd Thomas, 10 Years, Friendship!, The Spy Next Door, In Plain Sight, Truth Be Told, and a commercial. I also worked as a stand-in for Nichole Hiltz on In Plain Sight. In Ohio, I worked as an extra in the films Shooting Stars and Eenie Meanie.
My primary educational background is in medicine, but I enjoy sneaking a little bit of art into my life when I can. As an undergrad, I interned in the Environmental Safety and Health Industrial Hygiene Analytical Chemistry Laboratory (IHAC) at Sandia National Laboratories, a Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration Federally Funded Research and Development Center. After graduating with a B.S. in Molecular Biology from the University of Texas at Dallas, I moved to Ohio where I obtained a M.S. in Physiology from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, and an M.D. from the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences. I also completed a graduate certificate in pathology student fellowship at the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences.
